Buddhist-Jewish Inter-Cultural Discussion & Community Gathering on our shared culture of kindness and tolerance Address by Dr. Palitha T.B. Kohona, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations 13th September 2010
Venerable Monks, Distinguished Rabbis, Ladies & Gentlemen, I am delighted to have the opportunity to inaugurate this first meeting between the Buddhists in New York and the Jewish community. I thank my friend Mr. Mendel Spalter, Director/Outreach and Development of the Jewish Children’s Museum, for taking the initiative in organizing this meeting. I also appreciate the gesture of the venerable monks and the learned rabbis in agreeing to be present today, despite their heavy commitments. I hope that this meeting will lay the foundation for a friendship and an understanding that will continue into the future between the two communities. It is also significant that we are in this impressive museum, built almost entirely through voluntary contributions. |
