Sri Lanka at the senior management of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague The Sri Lanka Ambassador to The Netherlands and Permanent Representatives to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague Mrs. Grace A Asirwatham has been appointed as the Deputy Director General of the OPCW. An official announcement to this effect was made by H.E. Mr. Ahmet Uzumcu, Director General of the OPCW on 15th February, 2011, during the 63rd Session of the Executive Council. Ambassador Asirwatham’s appointment was welcomed with approbation by the members to the Executive Council. |

EU re-lists LTTE following comprehensive review of listed terrorist groups
The European Union (EU) has re-listed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) following a comprehensive review of listed terrorist groups. The announcement was made through Council Implementing Regulation (EU) No 83/2011 of 31 January 2011, published in the Official Journal of the European Union. |

ASSISTANCE FOR FLOOD AFFECTED PEOPLE IN SRI LANKA The Secretary/Disaster Management has informed the Ministry that at the start of this week, over a million people were affected due to floods and landslides, with around 284,000 housed in welfare centres. Ampara and Batticaloa are the worst affected Districts. As the rainfall continued for over 3 weeks, there has been serious damage to the livelihood activities as well. |

Inter-Agency Committee to facilitate the implementation of the Interim Communication of the Lessons Learnt & Reconciliation Commission (LLRC), holds its initial session The Inter-Agency Committee to facilitate the implementation of the Interim Communication of the Lessons Learnt & Reconciliation Commission (LLRC), had its initial session under the Chairmanship of Attorney-General Mohan Pieris on 24th November. It would be recalled that the Lessons Learnt & Reconciliation Commission presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa in September interim recommendations covering several issues. These recommendations were based on a careful consideration of the representations received by the Commission from many quarters. |
