The President of the US-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce, Dr Anil Vitharana and some leading Sri Lankans in the Tri-State area, including Drs Takshan de Alvis and Wije Kottahachchi, M/s Herath, Balasuriya and Lanerolle met at the residence of Ambassador Dr Palitha Kohona in New York to interact with a group of academic and business personalities from Connecticut with direct interests in Sri Lanka.

The Connecticut side was led by Professor Tim Dowding of the University of Connecticut who has proposed a number of projects in Sri Lanka, including bottling coconut water, which has gained wide popularity as an energy drink in the USA, producing hard board from coconut waste, exploiting an invasive species of sea grass found off Sri Lanka to produce fish food and fertilizer, encouraging distance learning using IT and a cooperative venture between the University of Colombo and U Conn. Benny Widayono, iss already a significant investor in Sri Lanka through his Leapard Fund. Samuel Holt, in the cinema industry, had his early education at Trinity College, and is proposing a film festival in Kandy. Loula Alafoyiannis is seeking opportunities for Greek investors in Sri Lanka. Ken Gilbert from the hospitality industry will travel to Sri Lanka this year. The other participants, Mughal, Pisani, Holt, Spreadbury, all expressed much enthusiasm for working with Sri Lanka.

Mr. Widayono summarized the event with the words, "I like to personally thank you sincerely from the depths of my heart for a fabulous evening under the stars. It was not your usual dinner but fairytale like. The food was good, the single malt and Mendis
special very special and the company exceptional. I left behind a brochure of the activities of Leopard Sri Lanka with which I am associated as they are
looking for bankable projects. I have already alerted Tim to meet with our management on the ground during his visit to Sri Lanka."
