The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York will celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Independence and the National Day of Sri Lanka in February 2008.
In the afternoon of Sunday 3rdFebruary 2008, the Permanent Mission, together with the Sri Lankan-American community in the Tri-State Area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, will hold religious observances followed by a multi-cultural performances representing all communities in Sri Lanka. This event is being organized with active participation of the community, especially the Sri Lankan Student Association of the College of Staten Island. Sri Lankan- Americans who have not received invitations to this event, and would like to attend the celebrations on 3rd February, should contact the Permanent Mission on 212-986-7040.
To celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Independence and National Day of Sri Lanka at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the Permanent Mission will hold an exhibition of photographs entitled "Sri Lanka through Visitor's Eyes" - by two American photographers Rena Bass Forman and John Beebe from Monday 4th to Friday 8th February. A Reception will be held on the evening of 4th February at the United Nations to mark the inauguration of the exhibition with the participation of representatives of member States of the UN and senior UN officials. The exhibition will focus on natural scenic beauty of Sri Lanka, heritage, culture, religious diversity and tolerance.
