The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations Commences work for the Year 2014
The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations organized a function for the ceremonial commencement of work for the year 2014. Ambassador and charge d’ affaires, Major General Shavendra Silva, along with the staff members followed the traditional guidelines by hoisting the national flag and singing the national anthem. A two minute silence was observed to commemorate the fallen war heroes, followed by the recital of the oath of Public Servants.
H.E. Major General Shavendra Silva, conveyed the Permanent Representative, Dr. Palitha Kohona’s message to the staff in which he extended his warm wishes for the New Year and appreciated the “efforts to advance the interests of Sri Lanka in a challenging global arena”.
Addressing the gathering, Major General Silva reiterated that with the commencement of the year, the entire staff should strive to work for the benefit of the country and its people. He affirmed that the unity and cooperation amongst fellow employees was and will always be the deciding factor in bettering not only the work environment but the country as a whole.
The ceremonies concluded with the senior diplomatic staff lighting the traditional oil lamp and the entire staff partaking in a customary breakfast table.
