National Victory Day Celebrated in New York
Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York Celebrated the ‘National Victory Day ‘ on Tuesday 18th May, at a simple religious ceremony held at the New York Buddhist Viharaya. Permanent Representative , Dr Palitha Kohona, staff members and Sri Lankans living in New York attended the religious ceremony. Ven. Kurunegoda Piyatissa Mahanayaka Thero, of the New York Buddhist Viharaya paid a special tribute to the President and the members of the security forces for bringing peace to Sri Lanka, having defeated a brutal terrorist group after twenty seven years of Bloody terrorism. The Nayaka Thero said the country must always remember with gratitude , the members of the valiant security forces who paid the supreme sacrifice to safeguard the integrity of Sri Lanka.
The Venerable Monk requested Sri Lankans living in New York and other countries, not to forget the services rendered by the members of the security forces. He urged them to continuously contribute to the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ project undertaken by the Ministry of Defence to build houses for members and families of the security forces. The Chief Priest thanked the staff of the Permanent Mission for organizing the religious ceremony on ‘National Victory Day’ to pay tribute to the President, Security Forces and all other officials.
