ASSISTANCE FOR FLOOD AFFECTED PEOPLE IN SRI LANKA The Secretary/Disaster Management has informed the Ministry that at the start of this week, over a million people were affected due to floods and landslides, with around 284,000 housed in welfare centres. Ampara and Batticaloa are the worst affected Districts. As the rainfall continued for over 3 weeks, there has been serious damage to the livelihood activities as well. |

My delegation associates itself with the position of the Non Aligned Movement articulated by the Permanent Representative of Egypt. The 29th of November, each year, engenders mixed feelings. On the one hand, it gives us hope that we will be able to see the State of Palestine becoming a reality as envisaged in the historic Resolution 181 of 29 November 1947. On the other, it disappoints many of us, that the inalienable rights of the Palestine People, including their right to self-determination, national independence and statehood, still remain unaccomplished, despite many efforts by the international community. |

Inter-Agency Committee to facilitate the implementation of the Interim Communication of the Lessons Learnt & Reconciliation Commission (LLRC), holds its initial session The Inter-Agency Committee to facilitate the implementation of the Interim Communication of the Lessons Learnt & Reconciliation Commission (LLRC), had its initial session under the Chairmanship of Attorney-General Mohan Pieris on 24th November. It would be recalled that the Lessons Learnt & Reconciliation Commission presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa in September interim recommendations covering several issues. These recommendations were based on a careful consideration of the representations received by the Commission from many quarters. |
